Labor of Love holiday fundraiser accepting 2024 donations

No family should go without food on the table. That goes double during the holidays.

The annual Labor of Love fundraising drive will help get food to families in need throughout the east metro this holiday season. Contributions from unions and their members will be accepted through Nov. 22, 2024.

All donations are used to purchase gift cards from union grocery stores. Local agencies distribute the gift cards to area families in December.

Agency partners include Catholic Charities in St. Paul, Jewish Community Center and Neighbors, Inc. Once again, the St. Paul Labor Studies and Resource Center’s Emergency Fund, which assists union members facing financial hardship, distributes 30% of proceeds from Labor of Love to union families in need.

To contribute, mail a check payable to Labor Studies and Resource Center to:

Labor Studies and Resource Center (LSRC)
Labor of Love
Attn: Laura
353 West 7th St., Suite 201
Saint Paul, MN 55102.

Labor of Love is co-sponsored by Greater Twin Cities United Way, the St. Paul Regional Labor Federation, the LSRC and the AFL-CIO Community Services program. To view and share the Labor of Love flier, click here.

13th Annual Labor Bowl raises over $31,000 for nonprofit

The 13th Annual Labor Bowl, held May 2 at Sun Ray Lanes, raised over $31,000 for the St. Paul Labor Studies and Resource Center (LSRC), a registered nonprofit affiliated with the Saint Paul Regional Labor Federation.

The LSRC, through its Community Services work, connects union members and their families to available resources and assistance programs during times of economic hardship. The LSRC also partners with labor organizations to provide important services such as strike and lay-off preparation training, community outreach and coalition building.

Labor Bowl brings together local union members, retirees and partners, with each bowler raising a minimum of $100 in pledges for the LSRC. The event also features drawings, raffles and prizes for high- and low-score games during each of the three bowling shifts.

High scorers were Ron Laumeyer (ATU Local 1005) and Carrie Roth (LIUNA Local 563) in the 2 p.m. shift; Bruce Peterson (Machinists Local Lodge 459) and Monica Byron (Education Minnesota) in the 4 p.m. shift; and Joe Yang (OPEIU Local 12) and Shelly Tschida (APWU Twin Cities Postal Data Center Local 7019) in the 6 p.m. shift.

Thank you to all the bowlers and sponsors who made our annual fundraising event a success!
